Tibet Everest Base Camp Tour 11 Days
Tibet Everest Base Camp tour is an extremely scenic one; we spend 3
days in Lhasa for sightseeing, which at the same time gives us enough
time to acclimatize. On the forth day we set off for a four days drive
to our destination, the Tibet Everest Base Camp (Rongbuk). The first
day is particularly scenic as we follow the Banks of the Yarlung River.
After crossing the river, we climb up to the high pass of Khamba-La.
Here we are rewarded with the magnificent view of Yamdruk Tso
(Turquoise Lake). The Lake is the largest fresh water lake in Tibet and
appears almost serene with the Tibetan Plateau stretching into the
distance. After lunch, we continue the ride over another high pass
(Karo-La) before our descent to Gyantse. This village, where we will
arrive by evening, is a famous ancient trading hub in Tibet. The
following morning we visit the major sites before commencing a short
drive to Shigatse(overnight).
We continue our journey to
Lhatse, which became more of a transport town over the years and really
is of little interest. However it is necessary to stop here for the
night.
After an early morning start, crossing the Gyatso La
pass, it takes about 4 hours to reach Xegar (New Tingri). Here we leave
the highway behind and travel south to Rongbuk, home of the highest
Monastery in the World (overnight). The trek to Base Camp is along a
gentle valley and takes us between 2 and 3 hours, meanwhile the north
face of Everest looming ever larger. It is not possible to go directly
to the Everest Base Camp as there is a Chinese check post. This check
post only allows authorized climbing groups to enter. After a while,
soaking up the atmosphere, we return to Rongbuk. Here we spend the
night before heading on to Nyalam. The last day is a 2 hour drive to
the border, after completing formalities, we travel back to our hotel
in Kathmandu.
