North of Kathmandu, closest to the capital is the Langtang area, a natural paradise. The trek starts with an overland journey to Syabru Bensi where we overnight. The following four days are full of beautiful scenery with forests of oak, rhododendron and pine slotted between ancient settlements. Above the tree line, the valley widens providing splendid views of Langtang Lirung (7400 meters). It is a main climb passing through the major settlement of Langtang and onwards to Kyangjin in the high valley, our trekking destination. An extra day is spent here for taking in the high mountain scenery and some further exploration of the extensive glacier system. From Kyangjin Gompa, one day takes to reach the foot of Gyanja-La where we rest a night for acclimatization and to assess the weather conditions. All being well, the next morning we push on high to cross the pass before making a steep descent. The following two days are under canvas away from human settlements. On the third day, we reach Sermathang, a beautiful Sherpa village in the Helambu region where we stay overnight. The very next morning, we descend to Melamchi bazaar before the journey back to Kathmandu. A trek offering some wonderful alpine scenery coupled with some strenuous high mountain trekking of the Gyanja La. The trek goes all the way to Gyanja La and eventually ends at Melamchi.
